What does it truly mean to belong? To feel included?
In today’s workplace discussions, diversity often takes centre stage, yet diversity alone is not enough. Without true inclusion, diversity is just a statistic—an achievement that quickly fades when employees feel undervalued, unheard, or unsafe. Many organisations celebrate hiring diverse talent, only to see high turnover rates because inclusion is not embedded in their culture.
Why Inclusion Must Be Measured
Inclusion isn’t just a good intention—it requires data-driven action. Without measurable insights, companies are left to guess at their progress. At Alda, we believe that measuring inclusion is the first step to creating workplaces that are diverse, equitable, and thriving for all.
📊 The Alda Inclusion Index was launched last October, starting with the Icelandic Inclusion Index, which surveyed 6,000+ respondents across 68 workplaces. Developed in partnership with the University of Iceland, this index evaluates inclusion across three key areas:
1️⃣ Inclusive Leadership – Are leaders fostering an environment of belonging?
2️⃣ Workplace Dynamics & Psychological Safety – Are employees protected from discrimination and bullying?
3️⃣ Authenticity & Masking – Can employees bring their full selves to work without fear?
Key Findings: A Call to Action
The Icelandic Inclusion Index currently stands at 3.4 out of 5, but marginalised groups consistently report significantly lower levels of inclusion.
💡 Marginalised employees are 75% more likely to experience a toxic workplace culture.
💡 Non-binary individuals are five times more likely to face microaggressions than men and women.
💡 LGBTQ+ professionals are 50% more likely to feel their identity negatively impacts their career growth.
These findings reinforce the urgent need for change—but inclusion isn’t just about fixing problems. It’s about embracing possibilities and creating workplaces where diverse perspectives drive innovation, empathy, and growth.
Introducing Global Benchmarking with the Alda Inclusion Index
In the coming months, organisations worldwide will gain access to benchmarking capabilities, enabling them to compare their inclusion scores across industries, company sizes, and geographic regions. This makes the Alda Inclusion Index a powerful tool for continuous improvement—not just a report, but a mirror that reflects where we stand and where we need to go.
